From all the US diplomacy cables released by Wikileaks related to Lebanon, I can say that almost all Lebanese politicians, opponents or allies to Hezbollah, are wary of them in a way or another.
On the same note, I came across an article about new leaked cable originating from the US Embassy in Damascus – 08DAMASCUS7 – which showed Syria befriending the US diplomacy, offering to do a package deal with the US over the common issues: peace, Hezbollah, Hamas and others.
Probably, we already knew that, but I just wondered when Hezbollah and other Lebanese will realise that they are just bargaining chips. At some point, their role will cease to exist. They would be better off, if they can sort their mess out internally before then! Not to mention the big challenge the Syrian regime is currently facing with the protests.
I was discussing the ‘Lebanese’ Wikileaks yesterday with a good friend of mine (not on twitter, Facebook or anywhere – think of him as a VIP) on YAS’s trottoir, he said something got me really thinking:
‘ok, we got to see the leaked American cables, but what about the ones originated from the Syrian or Iranian Embassies in Beirut?’.
This is a very an interesting question, and surely that would be a good catch if we can get hold of them! Don’t you think folks? I think for now, the closest thing we can get to, is something similar to the above: American cable issued from Syria or Iran only!
It turned up we have 8March Wikileaks by Al-Akhbar, and 14March Wikileaks by Al-Joumhouria! so typical in Lebanon, you only get half a truth. I will be highlighting them as they get to be released, so please…watch this space.
PS: The original source of above quoted cable has not been published by Wikileaks. I will update the post as soon as it is released.
