One aim of the pro-democracy protests sweeping the Arab world is toppling the dictators, but the ultimate aim of the Arab Spring should be establishing democratic countries that respect of human rights in all its forms. As we know, this is NOT necessarily happening.

Sadly, there are always parasites that will mushroom and try to exploit any successful revolution to bring their respective country backward to the dark ages. One of these parasites is someone called Sheikh Abdallah Rushdi in Egypt, who was debating on Egyptian TV if women are allowed to run for presidency (imagine we are still in the ‘debate’ stage on these matters).

This is what this Sheikh has to say on this matter: “God created the husband to be the guardian of his wife. He is her master, her man, and she obeys him. So how can my wife possibly be president of a republic? Will she listen to me or to the population”, then he continues: “…then her husband says: Either you resign and sit at home, or I will divorce you. What will we do then? You tell me. Should she lead her home to destruction or resign? The president cannot be subordinate to any other citizen. He must have the final say.”

Oh My God!

The danger is that this Sheikh is young, smartly dressed with a nice tie and trimmed beard. Some people, who are stuggling with their daily bread, might listen to him.

You can listen to him in the below video (with English subtitles), if you can bear that…
