I don’t confirm the authenticity of the above photo, but obviously I thought it’s intriguing enough to post it on my blog. It was posted on the page of the Local Coordination Committee for the Midan area in Damascus.

It’s a photo allegedly taken on 03/11/2011 (today) in Damascus in Syria, showing a Lebanese Army military lorry driving though the streets of the city. It’s reasonable to assume that it happened on mentioned date and location. The photo shows a wet environment, and it rained indeed today in the city. The road sign on the left side of the photo shows a real road junctions(see below) between Badawi Street and Hassan Kharrat Street (no, I am not being sarcastic, this is the real name – any resemblance is by coincidence!).

Now Hezbollah has denied all the time any involvement with the regime in the crackdown in Syria. And I am kind of inclined to believe that Syria has enough qualified forces to crackdown on dissidents, and don’t need any support. But still this photo looks sooo…ahh.

One big question is left unanswered by my logic: why the Lebanese plates were left exposed (whether they are real or fake)? Stupidity? Someone whispered in my ear: this is stolen goods from the days of the Syrian presence in Lebanon! Imagine, the dignity…

Does the photo look fake for any expert around here?

I once said here sarcastically that the Lebanese Army should enter Syria to ‘stabilise’ it – in reference to the entrance of the Syrian Army in 1975 to Lebanon. But could this be reality now? I hope not anyway, because this will be detrimental for Syria and Lebanon

Update 05/11/2011: the Lebanese Army has issued a statement in response to the publication of the above photo, denying any involvement in the crackdown in Syria. They said entering Syria for logistical reasons is legal, and happens in coordination between the two countries.
