After involving the Lebanese in unwanted regional matters, we were given yesterday another dimension of the armed resistance, a divine one. I am sure he wasn’t trying to convince secularists, Christians, Sunnis, Druze, non-religious and non-supporters of Shias, and all other religious groups…because it doesn’t matter anymore.
This is Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah for you, in a speech in a highly emotional Ashura eve:
Some Lebanese don’t want us to defend them, and they say they haven’t asked for our services. Well, we say we are not waiting for the Lebanese people to request our sacrifices; we do it because it’s a divine requirement.
It’s worth noting that he started his speech on how he is doing his best to stop a sectarian Sunni-Shia clash. Also, this morning in the central Ashura march in Beirut, he made sure to start his speech by expressing his Ashura condolences to the Iranian Leader Khamenei as the deputy of the awaited Mahdi (pretty divine, eh?)
So it’s NOT a political, national, dignified, human or defence matter, but a religious DIVINE one. I think we can admit here that there is no point from trying to debate this issue anymore. It’s something beyond the world we live in. I rest my case.
With Sayyid Nasrallah being less argumentative about his armed party case, it’s pretty clear that Hezbollah are loosing the logical and legal battles that support its presence among the Lebanese people. He had to go to supernatural forces to justify it. Here, I could ask about the mission of the ‘Defence Brigades’ (Saraya El Defaa) which were once formed by Hezbollah as a non-religious Lebanese armed wing for the resistance. Any news where they are now, and do we know if they have any divine missions too?
On a separate note, the Secretary General of the Future Movement Ahmad Hariri said:
We are aware of the dead bodies coming back from Syria [indicating they were fighting] that are being secretly buried in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahyeih), Baalbek and the South, without any funeral or religious procedures.
This guy never impressed me when he opened his mouth. To be precise, he doesn’t when he speaks. I think he is just making it worse with these statements. I hope he shows us the evidence for this serious claim as soon as possible, else someone needs to tell him to shut up.

lets see…..one by one….
first about the divine obligation….this is true and its found in all religions .So if you cannot find your own reasons to justify defending your country then you and others should really rest your case….as for the issue of sayed ali al khaminai as being the deputy of emam al Mahdi ,well this is something that is considered as a “fiqhi”desbute and i assume that you should spend sometime to read about this theory, however mentioning this issue didnt add any evidence to support your logic but i think it made you look smart in the eyes of some people….
as for “saraya al moqawama al lobnaniya”well its there and all should know that bragging about this issue will not help its improvement…Hizbullah way of dealing with thing..maybe when we meet ill tell you exactly whats going on….
about ahmad hariri well i agree with you completely…..
and i just noticed your previous article about ” involving the Lebanese in unwanted regional matters” well ill put a comment there as soon as i read it ,but for now just consider that Lebanese people like to stick their nose everywhere…..
Hi Tarek,
Let me rephrase the religious aspect of Iran & the Mahdi; I understand it’s a jurisprudence issue or ‘fiqhi’, & actually I respect this aspect & ALL religious views. But my problem is when this religious aspect becomes politics.
I have no problem in Hezbollah’s religious following to Iran, but this following became inseparable from the political and military followings (where I feel I have the right to ask questions as it starts to impact all Lebanese people).
Believe me, if my country is attacked, I will be the first to fight for it. But again, I can’t force any religious obligation on other citizens. You either want a country or you want to save the world, you can’t have both. I feel saving the world on my own is impracticable, costly & negative on my country. Imagine if Sunnis or Christians planned later to fulfill their religious or political obligations via arms. Hezbollah (without intending) is increasing the sectarian feelings in the country: “why them, not us?”. I am sad & disappointed to say it, but this is how it’s out there.
u mentioned ‘it’s NOT a political, national, dignified, human or DEFENSE matter, but a religious DIVINE one!’ …
Well if u listen again to what was said by Sayid u can clearly notice that he is purely talking about a DEFENDING matter here:
‘ Some Lebanese don’t want us to defend them, and they say they haven’t asked for our services. Well, we say we are not waiting for the Lebanese people to request our sacrifices; we do it because it’s a divine requirement’ .
I dont think that divine matters are separate from politics, logic, nation interest.. they are somehow interelated..
Anyhow, in case of any foreign attack, I dont think there would be a need to check the ‘divine meter’ of Hizeib or anybody!! we will all simply be unified..
How defence for Lebanon, when we are going to enter war if Iran is attacked?
